Code of Conduct: Rules and Behavior
CinCityCon is dedicated to providing a safe and harassment-free convention experience for everyone, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, or religion. We do not tolerate harassment of attendees, staff, or convention center personnel in any form. Attendees violating these rules may be expelled from the convention without a refund at the discretion of the convention organizers. Please remember that you are in a public venue, and you should treat others and their belongings with respect. CinCityCon reserves the right to eject anyone from the premises, without reimbursement of fees, whose activities endanger the health or well-being of others.
No pets or other animals are allowed at the convention except service animals.
CinCityCon is a small convention and sharing badges is not permitted. Everyone participating in convention events must have their own badge. Please bear in mind that sharing of badges reduces our ability to provide entertainment in the future. Any badges used by anyone other than the person named on the badge will be confiscated and the bearer removed from the convention.
CinCityCon encourages attendees to take advantage of the unique opportunity to wear costumes. However, costumes must be tasteful and cover appropriate areas of the body. What is illegal outside the convention is illegal at the convention. Props should be carried in a way that does not inconvenience or injure other attendees. Metal weapons, live firearms, or props loaded with high velocity projectiles are prohibited. Realistic weapon props may be approved or peace-bonded at discretion of the staff. If you are uncertain, please inquire at the registration desk. Please bear in mind that military uniforms dated after 1900 may only be worn by active military personnel.
Note that some costumes are designed to reflect characters from anime, comic books and the movies and as such may be surprising in a variety of ways. Please bear in mind, though, that these are human beings pretending to reflect these characters and should be treated as human beings not as characters with the full respect that entails. Unwanted touching, photographing or commentary are a form of harassment. Please treat people in costumes the same way you would anyone in a public setting. People, specifically but not limited to women, have a right to dress in costume and still feel safe. If you are unsure of whether a behavior is appropriate, simply do not do it.
Announced events are subject to change and/or cancellation without notice. Every effort will be made to announce any changes via the Internet, pre-convention publications, our onsite book, and posting at registration or other centrally visible areas. Cancellation of events is unfortunate but can occur. If your event is cancelled, you will receive a refund.
Photography / Videography
Attendance at CinCityCon or its events implies consent for use of one’s image in photos and videos. CinCityCon will be taking photographs and video for release on the CinCityCon Web site, on social media, in promotional materials, and for sharing with publishers and other supporters. If you have an important reason for not having your picture displayed, please contact CinCityCon organizers, in which case we will do our best to work with you to avoid using your image. However given the volume of pictures, CinCityCon cannot guarantee your image will not appear in these materials.
When taking photographs at the convention, DO NOT take photographs of specific individuals, including attendees in costume, without first getting their consent. Attendees have a right to refuse your request, though most will be happy oblige.
CinCityCon is a fun and exciting event. And we have most of the convention center to ourselves. However, guests are advised that all nearby hotels have quiet times, generally after 10:00 pm. CinCityCon requests guests to be respectful of these times,
Smoking is prohibited in the venue. If you need to smoke, the venue staff can direct you to the appropriate area.
Soliciting of convention attendees without the express permission of CinCityCon staff is prohibited. CinCityCon provides several opportunities to reach our attendees. The primary means for interacting with attendees is through purchase of a booth in the Vendor Hall. Artists and smaller businesses or organizations have the opportunity to obtain table space in our Entrepreneur area. Other conventions, event organizers, gaming groups, and anyone else interested may contact the convention organizers to have their information displayed on an informational table near registration. If you are unsure about the best way to reach CinCityCon attendees, please contact CinCityCon staff prior to the convention by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Live weapons are prohibited at the convention. Some weapon props are allowed as provided in the costume rules. Please make sure to have all prop weapons checked for safety measures while attending CinCityCon. (See Costumes)
If you experience or witness any negative behavior affecting others, please notify the Directors Chris Grzywacz or Greg Franseth. If you cannot find them, let registration staff know, and they will contact them to follow up.
The bottom line is to have fun, be respectful, and when in doubt ask the convention organizers.
